Treatment Options
At Champion Bay Massage Therapy, we use an integrated approach as each type of treatment has its own way of helping the body heal. Here is what your therapist is using to optimise your session:
Remedial Massage
Using various strokes, your therapist is working on the soft tissue to improve blood flow, mobility and reduce inflammation. The aim is to locate the damaged area as muscular issues can trigger or radiate pain to other parts of the body. We then look to balance the length, tone and tension of the muscles and tendons to restore the correct position of the bones and, ultimately create the right environment for the injury to heal. The pressure applied in this healing treatment can be strong and deep or gentle and shallow, depending on the situation.
Easing and stabilising muscles can improve problems such as headaches, abdominal pain, lower back pain, sciatica and more.
Dorn Spinal Therapy
This technique is an alternative method for moving skeletal bones using body movement. It is sometimes referred to as spontaneous realignment with movement. The therapist checks for imbalances by assessing the length of your legs, the sacroiliac area and the spine. Other areas such as the shoulders, elbows, jaw and collarbone may also be considered. With gentle pressure and your own body movement, the bones are guided and encouraged into a natural self-realignment.
Dry Needling
Dry needling aims to release tight muscle bands, pressure and encourage greater range of motion. When using this technique, the therapist inserts a very fine needle into a targeted point in the muscle band to elicit a release. No fluids are injected into the body. In fact, the body seeks to heal the injury at the site itself along with the area in pain. The treatment can cause a short, temporary sting or dull ache as the needle is stimulated at the trigger point.
Low Level Laser Therapy
This therapy enables the body to reduce swelling and inflammation, relieve pain and promote healing. We expose the affected area to a low-intensity light which causes a chemical change in the body’s cells, creating energy and amplifying cellular function. This helps enhance the body’s healing processes. As the cells then release natural morphine-like molecules, this can help control and inhibit the sensation of pain. If we stimulate the cells of the adrenal gland, they will release cortisol to combat stress associated with pain.
While the short-term and immediate effects are significant in most cases, the longer-term and cumulative effects are important. The increased revived cells, protein building blocks, activated muscles and new cell production all help in healing the central issue.
Other effects may include a stimulated immune response, improved lymphatic drainage, positively altered histamine response, production of growth hormone and stimulated healing processes. This all helps you feel better and assists your body to heal.
Champion Bay Massage Therapy uses a variety of laser options depending on the aim of the healing process. There are large lasers to cover large areas of the body, small probes for auricular therapy and stronger options for deep tissue stimulation. Light needles do not penetrate the tissue but are used to help reverse effects of chronic conditions. Sublingual options are used to access cells in the blood for many conditions including post-surgery and where access may be limited.
We can use Low Level Laser Therapy on conditions such as:
- repetitive stress injury

Integrative Manual Therapy
This corrective, sports massage involves a unique set of techniques that address pain, dysfunction and disability. It is a comprehensive approach to healing from both a structural perspective and a functional methodology. This technique is integrated into all treatments as it can benefit many conditions.
Sports Taping and Strapping
In order to maintain a stable position of bones and muscles as well as to help reduce pain and aid recovery, we apply a tape or strapping to the body. In many cases, this can help prevent injury or lower the chances of reinjury.
We use multiple types of tape depending on the health goal and may suggest this option after your assessment.
